If you think the sales over the coming weekend are limited to toys, clothes, and electronics, think again.
Travel deals are now part of the landscape of Black Friday and Cyber Monday too. Here are a few examples:
Air-Hotel Packages
Gate 1 Travel, which sells air-hotel combos, river cruises, escorted tours and other travel packages to destinations all over the world (Kenya and Peru, to name a couple examples), allows customers to get $50 to $500 off by booking in the coming days. To get the discount, book on November 24 (Thanksgiving) or November 25 (Black Friday) and use whichever code is appropriate: BLKFR50 knocks $50 off a trip costing $500 and up; BLKFR100 for $100 off a $1,000 package; BLKFR250 for $250 off when you're spending at least $2,000; or BLKFR500 for $500 off if your bill totals $4,000 or over.
New Orleans Packages
For an easy $40 off any hotel stay or air-hotel package in New Orleans by booking on Friday at NewOrleans.com and using the code BlackFriday40. Travelers must spend at least $400 to get the $40 discount, and trips must take place by March 30, 2012. The same deal is being offered for travelers booking on Cyber Monday; just sub in the code CyberMonday40.
Cruises
The Orlando Sentinel names no fewer than four cruise lines offering special discounts on bookings made throughout the Thanksgiving holiday period. USA Today, meanwhile, highlights Black Friday deals from the likes of Costa Cruises, which is offering discounted departures in Europe and 10-night Caribbean cruises starting at just $699.
North American Resort Stays
Shell Vacations Hospitality works with more than two dozen resorts in mostly sunny spots around North America (Kauai, Las Vegas, Puerto Vallarta, San Diego), as well as a few other choice destinations (skiing in British Columbia, wine-tasting in Napa Valley). The operator won't disclose exact details ahead of time, but promises discounts of up to 50 percent off bookings made on Shell Vacations Hospitality.
Loews Hotels
With Loews' Cyber Monday sale, book a stay at a choice of 15 Loews properties in the U.S. and Canada and receive an automatic 20 percent discount off the lowest rate. Free in-room Internet access is included in the deal as well. Travel is valid through March 31, 2012.
