Travel destinations inspired by the Oscars

With the 89th annual Academy Awards coming up this Sunday, everybody is talking about the movies they loved this year. Some travelers like to take their love of the movies a step further and visit the locations of their favorite Oscar-nominated films. Here, some of our favorite affordable Oscar-inspired destinations.

LOS ANGELES: We love Los Angeles for its beaches, cutting-edge cuisine, and spectacular art museums. Of course, the movie La La Land celebrates old-fashioned Hollywood, and you can do the same on a trip to L.A. The swanky Tilt Hotel Universal, an Ascend Hotel Collection member, puts you in the middle of the action, with a stylish box office-themed lobby and movie-themed rooms that start from $157, all just a short drive from the Warner Brothers Studio, where you can book a tour that includes classic movie sets and stories.

PITTSBURGH: Budget Travelers know that Pittsburgh is ready for its close-up, and the Oscar-nominated film Fences has brought the city some of the attention it deserves. Visit the incredible Carnegie Museums, the Andy Warhol Museum, and the August Wilson Center, named for the Pultizer Prize- and Tony Award-winning playwright of Fences, who lived in Pittsburgh's Hill District and set his 10-play "Pittsburgh Series" in the city. The center hosts art exhibitions, films, and live performances devoted to African American culture and history. Stay at the nearby Cambria Hotels & Suites, with rooms from $149.

MIAMI: Of course, Miami is always a good idea, and the Oscar-nominated film Moonlight showcases several Miami-area communities, including Miramar and Liberty City. Travelers can soak up the sun at the Bluegreen Vacations Solara Surfside, an Ascend Hotel Collection member, from $199, right near Miami's South Beach and just steps away from a walk in the sand.
