Can you say road trip? Rent a car in Arizona, drop it off in one of nine states in the West, and the rental rate will be just $5 daily.
Hertz's Arizona Drive for $5 special helps the rental agency shift inventory for the summer season -- and travelers who help out are thanked in the form of super cheap rental rates.
To get this special rate, renters must reserve through the above link or by entering the code DRV5 at the time of booking. Cars must be picked up by May 31, 2011, at the latest. Availability is limited, though, and the offer could be sold out before then. The $5 rates are valid only for smaller cars (economy and compact models) at participating rental locations throughout Arizona, and must be dropped off at Hertz locations in California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, or Washington.
Rentals come with unlimited miles, no drop-off charges, and a 14-day maximum rental period -- all of which help form the basis of an inexpensive and fun road trip. The scenery and wide-open roads in the West and Southwest don't hurt either.
On the other side of the country, there's a similar but not-quite-as-cheap one-way rental special this spring available from Alamo. Economy and full-size vehicles picked up in Florida and dropped off in almost another state are available for $19.95 a day, with unlimited miles and a maximum 21-day rental period. This special is available for rentals picked up between April 25 and May 31 at one of 11 Alamo locations in Florida.
