THIS JUST IN: A Bonus Awaits If You Book a Cruise by the End of October

(Lonely Planet)

We interrupt your Halloween preparations with this travel newsflash: We’re reaching the tail end of National Plan a Cruise Month. (But c’mon—shouldn’t every month be National Plan a Cruise Month?) Anyway, it’s a great excuse for us to tell you that according to research, numbers of vacationers who take cruises will increase from about 21.12 million in 2013 to somewhere in the ballpark of 25 million in 2019. Chalk that up to the growth of multi-generational travel or an increased interest in both luxury cruising and river cruise companies. Either way, more people are setting sail than ever.

Deal of the Day: Let an Historic Boutique Hotel in Arizona Take You Back In Time, from $89

From the beyond-compare sunsets to the swashbuckling cowboys and their saloons to the Granite Dells to the historic Victorian architecture, it's easy to romanticize Arizona. The historic town of Prescott embodies all that and the Hassayampa Inn, which dates back to 1927, makes that history feel very much alive. Given the lobby's grand hand-painted ceiling, the vintage elevator, live jazz in the lobby bar, and lots of refurbished Art Deco details, it's easy to understand why the illustrious personalities who defined the Roaring Twenties (see: Clark Gable, Greta Garbo) sojourned here.

Deal of the Day: Enjoy the Blue Ridge Mountains' Foliage at this Charming Inn, from $199, plus lots of bonus perks

The six porches at the Mark Addy Inn, located in a Victorian-era building near Charlottesville, Virginia, are one of the many traits that give the B&B its distinctly Southern charm. Couple that with the sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and you have yourself one serious Southern accented vacation. Though this time of year, you’ll likely get a small measure of New England charm in the mix, what with it being foliage season and all. Nearby, there are plenty of natural spectacles beyond the foliage, like Crab Tree Falls, and historical sites like Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest. Culinary-minded travelers will keep busy with the assortment of wineries and breweries in the area. The hotel is located close to both Brew Ridge Trail, a path of six breweries that you navigate on your own, and Nelson 151, a highway along which you’ll find wineries, breweries, and a cider mill.

Summer getaway. How cliché.

The off-season, it’s well known, offers plenty of opportunities to save fast cash, but many may not realize the extent of the savings, especially in shoulder season (that’s industry jargon for these post-summer months when the weather is still beach-friendly.)
