Family Fun in Orlando

JetBlue's airfare and three-bedroom suite package
Tuesday, January 31, 2006 |

The Real Deal: Round-trip airfare and a three-night stay at the Embassy Vacation Resort from $299 per person

When: Ongoing

Gateways: Boston, New York City; additional cities available (see note below*)

Details: Hotel taxes, airport taxes and fuel surcharges are included

Book By: No deadline; based on availability

Contact: JetBlue, 800/JET-BLUE, jetblue.com/getaways

The package includes round-trip non-stop airfare on JetBlue and a three-night stay in a three-bedroom suite at the lakefront Embassy Vacation Resort in Orlando, Florida, two miles from Disney World. Perfect for families, the suite sleeps eight and comes with a full kitchen, washer and dryer, and a screened patio. You can swim in the resort's outdoor pool or go fishing and canoeing in Lake Bryan.

Unlike a tour operator that secures a set number of tickets at a set price for a select amount of time, JetBlue's getaways are available on an ongoing basis and the rates fluctuate constantly based on availability and seasonality.

Our searches for this package on varying days of the week in March, April and May, yielded prices ranging from $299 to $399. It made virtually no difference whether the departure city was Boston or New York City. The more flexible your plans, the more likely you'll find a great deal. Do some digging and keep in mind that the lowest fares tend to be for departures on Sun., Mon., or Tues.

Economy car rental starts at $31 per day (Budget).

In comparison, round-trip airfare alone between Boston and New York City in March is currently $183 (United Airlines).

Theme Park Savings: Universal Orlando introduced a new discount yesterday that allows one child aged nine and under free admission to their two theme parks, Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, with the purchase of one adult two-day, multi-pass ticket, $99.95. Purchases must be made online and include three bonus days, essentially converting the two-day pass into a five-day one. Discount is valid through Dec. 31, 2006. Taxes are an additional $6.50.

*While it's possible to book this package with a departure from the West Coast, it wouldn't be as convenient or as economical since JetBlue currently flies non-stop to Orlando only from New York City and Boston. Departing from, say, Salt Lake City, you would have to take an overnight, red-eye flight and make a stop in New York City. The package would double in price, jumping to roughly $615 per person. Sooner or later, JetBlue seems bound to introduce non-stop service from the West Coast to Florida--we'll be sure to let you know!
