The Culinary Quest package includes round-trip airfare to Montreal and from Quebec City on Air Canada and six nights' lodging: one night at Montreal's elegant Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth; two nights in Saint-Paulin at Auberge Le Baluchon, whose four lodges are equipped with whirlpools and saunas; two nights in Montmagny at the historic Manoir des Erables; and one night just outside Quebec City at the Auberge Duchesnay, an inn adjacent to the Ice Hotel and noted for its Bistro-Bar Le Quatre-Temps. Complimentary daily breakfasts and dinners highlighting regional specialties are served at the B&Bs in Saint-Paulin and Montmagny.

An automatic midsize rental car with unlimited mileage is also included (Thrifty). While driving, you'll pass the valleys and water mills of Chaudiere-Appalaches, the area around Montmagny, as well as the waterfalls, lakes, and dense forests of Mauricie, the area around Saint-Paulin.

There'll be plenty of time to take the scenic route since the drives between the four destinations are short: one hour and 45 minutes from Montreal to Saint-Paulin; two hours and 45 minutes from Saint-Paulin to Montmagny; and one hour from Montmagny to Quebec City. Pick up and drop off the car at the airport.

Before you go, check BudgetTravelOnline.com for the local weather forecasts, exchange rate, and time. And consult Quebec's official tourism website, bonjourquebec.com, for the latest on what to see and do.

In comparison, the lowest round-trip fare (New York-Montreal and Quebec City-New York) that we're found for early October is $665 (Air Canada). For only about $440 more, Maxxim Vacations, specialists to Canada, cover the six-night stay and the rental car.
