Getting There: The closest airport, Telluride, is only seven miles from the Peaks. Call the resort in advance to arrange a complimentary ride from the airport (you can easily get by without a rental car). The downside is that flights into Telluride tend to be at least $100 more expensive than those into Montrose, about an hour and a half from the Peaks. If you opt for the Montrose airport, you can catch the Telluride Express shuttle, which makes the trip to Telluride for $45 per person one-way.
For example, the lowest round-trip fares we've found to Telluride in early December are: $449 from Chicago; $566 from New York City; and $612 from San Francisco. To Montrose: $324 from New York City; $340 from Chicago; and $372 from San Francisco. All flights are on United.
