The package includes round-trip airfare to Rio de Janeiro via Sao Paulo on a major carrier, such as TAM Airlines or American, and eight nights' accommodations. The first three nights are in Rio at the 217-room Pestana Rio Atlantica hotel on the main strip parallel to Copacabana Beach. There's a welcome dinner, a half-day tour of Corcovado--home of the hilltop Christ statue--and a visit to the H. Stern Jewelry Museum. Next comes a two-and-a-half-hour flight to Florianopolis, where you'll spend three nights at the sprawling beachfront Costao do Santinho, one of Brazil's most gorgeous and luxurious resorts. You'll go horsebackriding along the sand dunes for about two hours, and you can choose one of several spa treatments.
A four-hour flight, with a stop in Sao Paulo, brings you to Iguazu Falls, where you'll spend two nights on the Brazilian side at the Rafain Palace Hotel, which has four pools, tennis courts, and a sauna. You'll see the falls from the Brazilian and Argentine sides. On the way to the airport to catch a flight to Sao Paulo and then back to the U.S., you'll stop for a look at Itaipu, one of the world's largest dams. (Note that all domestic flights are on TAM.)
You can extend your stay in any of the locations for a flat fee of $150 per person and additional hotel payments. Add extra nights in for $75 in Rio, $85 in Florianopolis, and $45 by Iguazu Falls; all rates are per person per night.
Remember that Brazil's seasons are the opposite of ours. You'll get the best value out of this package if you book your trip for the months (Nov.-Mar.) when Brazil heats up. Before you go, check the weather forecast, exchange rate, and local time on BudgetTravelOnline.com.
In comparison, the lowest round-trip, multicity fares we've found in mid-November--arriving in Rio and departing from Sao Paulo--are $913 from Miami (Aerolineas Argentina) and $945 from New York City (Delta). For only about $550 more, Traveland covers the international and domestic flights as well as eight nights' accommodations, select meals, and sightseeing.
