The package includes round-trip airfare on award-winning Singapore Airlines, a three-night stay at the high-end Crown Princess Kuala Lumpur and a five-night stay at the seaside Grand Mirage in Bali. Flights between Kuala Lumpur and Bali are on Air Asia, with a flying time of three hours. In Kuala Lumpur, a half-day bus tour has an itinerary that includes the king's palace, the National Mosque, the National Monument, and the city's famous skyscrapers. In Bali, a three-hour sightseeing tour takes you to the centuries-old, Javanese sea temple Tanah Lot.

Add three nights at the Bayview Beach Resort in northern Penang, a Malaysian tropical island roughly the size of Rhode Island, with a round-trip ticket on Air Asia between Kuala Lumpur and Penang, for $220 per person.

Weather in the region tends to be hot and humid year-round, with temperatures reaching the mid to high 90s Fahrenheit. March is the warmest month of the year. You can check the current forecast (as well as the exchange rate and local time) at BudgetTravelOnline.com. Note that in January 2007 the State Department reissued its travel warning to Americans planning to visit Indonesia. The State Department "urges Americans in Indonesia to avoid crowds, maintain a low profile, and be vigilant about security at all times."

What Makes This a Deal? In comparison, the lowest round-trip fare we've found for travel between San Francisco and Kuala Lumpur in mid-February is $1,124. If you book your trip through Sayang Holidays, you'll save $79 and have your seven nights' lodgings and some sightseeing covered.

What's more, once you arrive, you'll find your out-of-pocket expenses are minimal because the dollar is strong against the Indonesian currency, the rupiah. The Swiss bank UBS recently ranked Kuala Lumpur as the city offering the best value for leisure vacationers among 71 metropolises worldwide. Bali is a similar bargain.
