Learn to Surf at Daytona Beach, from $149
The Bahama House and Best Western Aku Tiki Inn are offering room rates from $99 per night and two options for families eager to try surfing. The family instruction package includes private lessons from a qualified Surfari Surf instructor. For a family of four, prices start at $50 per person for a two-and-a-half-hour class or $135 per person for three classes (representing 10 percent off the typical rates). Surfari also runs three- and five-day surf camps catering to children 8 and older. Camp lasts for four hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. Florida Discovery Bicycling Center, $745
The program includes a five-night stay at the family-run Cassadaga Hotel, located in a spiritualist community near Lake Helen, where the bike tours begin and end. There are four full days of cycling (ranging from 20 to 40 miles daily) and a half-day safety training program. Along the way, you'll pass quaint towns, lakes, and fields of wildflowers. The non-bike sightseeing varies. You might hike in DeLeon Springs State Park, kayak in Blue Spring State Park (home to manatees), tour of Mainstreet in DeLand, or visit a citrus grove at Vo La Salle Farms. All meals are included, ranging from dinner at local restaurants to catered meals at area residents' homes to cook-your-own pancakes on a tabletop griddle at Old Spanish Sugar Mill Restaurant at DeLeon Springs State Park. The Family Adventure package includes a three-night stay at the TradeWinds in St. Petersburg as well as two T.A.Z. passes for kids' activities (valued at $100 and good for children 4-17), two full-day passes for the three-story High Tide Slide on the beach, a beach bag, and a gourmet card offering 20 percent savings at all 15 TradeWinds food and beverage venues. Swashbucklin' at TradeWinds, $842
The Swashbucklin' by the Sea package, available at the beachfront TradeWinds in St. Petersburg, covers a four-night stay, a cruise on the Pirate Ship at John's Pass, a pitcher of beer and a boatload of shrimp at RedBeard's Sharktooth Tavern, admission to RedBeard's Pirate Show and Pirate Party, and two T.A.Z. passes. Also included are a beach cabana and the resort amenity fee, which provides use of paddleboats, the fitness center, tennis courts, and free self-parking.
