Seaside, Ore.
Northwest Women's Surf Camps offers a variety of camps, including a special Girlfriend Getaway experience geared towards groups of four to 12 friends (girls 13 to 18 years old and women of all ages). Groups can book a one-day or two-day surf camp. Each day begins with an hour of beach yoga followed by on-beach safety instruction for the boards, body, and ocean as well as simulated on-beach surf instruction. Two surf sessions (with a catered organic lunch in between) go until 5:30 P.M. Instruction is geared towards beginners, and equipment--wet suits and boards--is provided. One-day camp rates range from $199 to $295 per person based on the number of people in the group; the smaller the number, the higher the student-to-instructor ratio and the higher the rates. Two-day camps start at $358 per person. Each participant gets an NWWSC sweatshirt and a goodie bag. The least expensive lodging option is the nearby Hostelling International Seaside. A private room starts at $65 for two people. (Note that the room has a queen-size bed with two bunk beds and a rollout, so it can sleep up to five people at an additional charge.) When: June 23-24, July 21-22, Aug. 26, Sept. 1, 2007. Details: The cheapest surf-camp rates assume that you preregister, which means that you must book and pay for the camp at least 14 days in advance. Lodging taxes are included in the hostel's $65 rate. Transportation between the hostel and beach is included. Contact: NW Women's Surf Camps, 503/440-5782, nwwomenssurfcamps.com.
