Why It's a Deal: A recent search on kayak.com yielded a lowest round-trip fare of $553 per person for travel to Prague in early November (multiple carriers). For about $125 more, Sophisticated Traveler, which specializes in trips to Central Europe, covers the international airfare as well as the five-night stay, transfers, and hotel taxes.
Trip Details: The package includes round-trip airfare on a Star Alliance carrier, such as United or Lufthansa, and a five-night stay at the modern, 46-room Hotel Ehrlich. It's located in Prague 3 (Zizkov), a residential area, close to one of the largest city parks and the New Jewish Cemetery, where Franz Kafka is buried. The city center can be reached by the N. 133 or N. 207 bus; the subway is a 10-minute walk from the hotel. You'll get a full breakfast daily, and you can extend your stay for an extra $30 per person per night, based on double occupancy and travel dates within the period of Oct. 31-Dec. 13.
Keep in mind that, as is typical, this package is cheapest for travel during the off-season months of November and December, when temperatures dip to the 30s Fahrenheit and tourists are (comparatively) few. Assuming you've packed the right clothes, you may find there's something charming and appropriate about visiting the Bohemian city of looming castles and bridges--and hearty stews and beers--as winter sets in and blankets Prague in its first snows of the season.
If you opt to purchase this package for the summer, when it's much warmer and sunnier, you'll be staying instead at the Hotel Angelis, which lies outside the city center but within a very quick commute by tram or by subway--it's three stops from Wenceslas Square. The hotel is in Prague 5 (Smíchov), which used to be a run-down area with factories and lately has become a more vibrant neighborhood with shops and businesses, on the left bank of the Vltava river.
Upgrades are available for several local hotels at an additional cost ranging from $10 to $229 per person per night, depending on the travel dates and room occupancy.
