There's something delightfully off-kilter about the New Museum of Contemporary Art's new home in Manhattan. Designed by Ryue Nishizawa and Kazuyo Sejima of Tokyo architecture firm SANAA, the 60,000-square-foot building looks like seven boxes that have been wrapped in mesh and stacked haphazardly. The galleries, which open December 1, will house avant-garde sculpture, paintings, and installation art from the past 30 years, including an inaugural exhibit of work by artists inspired by everyday objects, such as furniture, lightbulbs, and paper bags. 235 Bowery, 212/219-1222, newmuseum.org, $12.
