MEXICO

Deal of the Month!
Mexico's Newest Riviera
In 2007, the Mexican government decided to create a new tourism destination along a 100-mile stretch of Pacific coastline north of Puerto Vallarta. Rechristened Riviera Nayarit, the region still has its rustic appeal in the form of surf spots, white-sand beaches, fishing villages, and roadside vendors selling jackfruit and mango—but now there are additional attractions, too. Eco-hotels, luxury resorts, and professional golf courses are already springing up. Best of all, newly built four-lane highways—with more bridges and roads in the works—mean that wherever your destination along this newly hip strip might be, it's now within easy reach of the Puerto Vallarta airport.

Riviera Nayarit from $869
American Airlines flights from L.A. to Puerto Vallarta, transfers, and five nights at the all-inclusive beachfront Allegro Nuevo Vallarta hotel overlooking Banderas Bay in the town of Nuevo Vallarta. When: Until Dec. 18. Other Gateways: New York ($1,085), Chicago ($1,109), Dallas ($1,115). SS: From $251. Information: Liberty Travel, 888/271-1584, libertytravel.com.

Acapulco from $540
Three nights in a beachfront cabana at Casa Yal'ma Ka'an, a 20-minute drive from the airport, and breakfasts. The price is per room; airfare isn't included. Transfers are $40 extra. When: Nov. 1-Dec. 19; Jan. 6-Feb. 28. SS: Not available. Information: Mexico Boutique Hotels, 800/728-9098, mexicoboutiquehotels.com.
