SAY WHAT?

Chichi Holiday Inns?

We sat next to InterContinental Hotels Group CEO Andy Cosslett at a recent dinner. He's a charming guy, and he told a funny story. IHG, which owns the Holiday Inn brand among others, is expanding hugely in China. Cosslett said that everywhere else in the world, the company often has to persuade the owners of Holiday Inns to spend more money on their hotels. But in China, where the taste runs toward marble and gold, the company has to persuade the owners to spend less! China is evidently home to some of the fanciest Holiday Inns on earth.
