'Hood Ipanema, one of Rio's most desirable neighborhoods thanks to a lovely beach and a sprinkling of restaurants and trendy boutiques. A few blocks from the hotel is Praça General Osório, lauded for its Sunday street market.
The Vibe There's nothing quite like stepping out your door into one of the city's prettiest panoramas: a pedestrian-only beachfront street lined with coconut trees and café tables. The hotel dates to the 1970s, and its main amenity is an ocean-fronting restaurant that draws guests and locals alike.
Rooms Simple, tidy standard rooms face an interior wall and don't receive much (if any) natural light, while the bigger, brighter deluxe ones provide unobstructed ocean views.
Plus A good value in a scenic location. A 10-minute walk up the beach leads to Ponta do Arpoador, a rocky outcropping that's a fantastic vantage point for sunsets.
Minus Unlike the adjacent neighborhoods of Flamengo and Copacabana, Ipanema does not have access to a subway stop, which can make getting to other parts of Rio a hassle.
