'Hood SoMa (south of Market Street), whose 1990s-era warehouses are now hip restaurants and galleries. Americania is within walking distance of the Orpheum Theatre and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
The Vibe Fun and games for the whole family—even pet dogs get treats at check-in. Inspired by mid-20th-century pop culture, every corner of the hotel has retro details, such as shag rugs, lime-green sofas, egg chairs, and Jelly Belly dispensers. A lobby jukebox pipes out everything from Modest Mouse to Johnny Cash to Lamb Chop ditties.
Rooms In keeping with the lobby's eye-popping design, the 143 rooms have checkerboard rugs, white- or red-lacquer nightstands, pearlescent vinyl headboards, and framed vintage board games like Chutes and Ladders. Bathrooms are a bit cramped, but the separate sink areas have plenty of counter space. Two-room suites sleep up to six.
Plus An in-house burger joint where diners can build their own creations. Dessert highlights: milkshakes and funnel cake drizzled with strawberry or caramel sauce. Custom Lounge serves cocktails after 5 p.m.
