About this Hotel
Price From $119
'Hood SoMa (South of Market Street), a once-industrial area full of galleries and nightspots. It's four blocks from the hotel to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Yerba Buena Gardens.
The Vibe The hotel reopened in September 2008 after a top-to-bottom renovation. Its new look is refreshingly eclectic: The lobby's green-lacquer furniture is juxtaposed with Mackintosh-like upholstered chairs and Moroccan side tables. Sepia-tone caricatures behind the front desk pay homage to San Francisco notables like Robin Williams, Patty Hearst, and Harvey Milk.
Rooms All 48 rooms are likewise named after local legends, from gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson to modern dance doyenne Isadora Duncan. The decor is a curious mashup of Victorian lace curtains, sleek leather headboards, and antiques like fabric-bound books and typewriters that contain bios for each room's namesake. Five of the 22 deluxe king rooms have wood-burning fireplaces.
Plus There's a romantic outdoor hot tub nook on the second-floor patio.
Minus Carriage Inn lacks a restaurant, so you won't be able to get room service or breakfast.
Free Wi-Fi? Yes.
Credit Cards Accepted AmEx, Discover, MC, Visa.
Details Double rooms from $119, deluxe rooms with king-size beds and fireplaces from $139.
