Leave it to a Paris graffiti artist to mess with the stuffy St.-Tropez hotel scene. At André Saraiva's Hôtel Ermitage, opened last fall in a 19th-century hillside villa overlooking the bay of St.-Tropez, each of the 27 rooms has its own unique design, dreamed up by the likes of shoe designer Christian Louboutin and actress Chloë Sevigny and accented with mid-century-modern furniture, claw-foot tubs, and splashy Terry Richardson photographs. Guests gather by a fireplace in the black-walled lobby lounge or at the pétanque court just off the terrace. Pampelonne Beach is only a 12-minute drive away, and the Ermitage provides a befitting (and free) shuttle: a mint-condition 1950s Bentley.
