About this Hotel

Price From $129

'Hood On the border between Union Square and the rough-and-tumble Tenderloin district. The hotel is close to the Great American Music Hall and bars, such as Bourbon & Branch.

The Vibe A cool retreat from the hubbub outdoors. The lobby is awash in vibrant hues, and there's a waterfall wall behind the registration desk. You'd be forgiven for thinking you'd stepped into a spa.

Rooms Each of the 10 floors is decorated by theme: earth (green), wind (gray), fire (orange), and water (blue). Maple-framed chairs and drum-shade lamps add a modern touch, as does Nintendo. A three-bedroom Urban Explorers kids' suite has bunk beds and a computer.

Plus Farmer Brown restaurant, off the lobby, specializes in farm-fresh soul food. There's a meditation room and a 300-volume library with a wine hour on Fridays and Saturdays.

Minus Skip the hotel's seemingly convenient "breakfast in a box." Even at $5, it's over-priced.

Free Wi-Fi? Yes.

Credit Cards Accepted AmEx, MC, Visa.

Details Doubles with one or two beds from $129; two- and three-bedroom executive suites from $232; and kids' suite $369, including breakfast.
