Unobstructed sea views trump design frills at this 16-room property one block from the Mediterranean. The lack of decorative embellishment may be a little startling at first, but the usual collection of knickknacks and framed landscapes seem pointless to the hotel's owners, who prefer to let the nightly sunsets and a colorful parade of pedestrians on the beach take center stage. The furnishings that do exist feel purposeful: carved wooden headboards, low mahogany tables, and a decorative iron staircase provide a dose of old-world appeal, and the parquet floors were added just last year. That said, if you can't get a room on the west-facing side, you will be missing the boats.
