'Hood Hell's Kitchen, a section of Midtown West packed with restaurants. It's a five-minute walk from the action at Times Square—a prime location for theatergoers.

The Gist Built during the 1920s, the 334-room Belvedere has a front entrance with beautiful art deco–inspired windows and ornamentation. Guest rooms don't quite have the same old-fashioned aesthetic but are nonetheless comfortable and tidy, with russet-colored carpeting and curtains. Each comes with a kitchenette (a sink, a microwave, a mini fridge, and a coffeemaker). Online reviewers appreciate the friendly staff but begrudge the slow elevators.
