About this Hotel

Price From $149

'Hood Pacific Heights, five blocks from the Presidio. There's great shopping one block away on Sacramento Street, and the University of San Francisco campus is also nearby.

The Vibe Originally built in the mid-'60s, this 49-room hotel has a contemporary, mod-inspired look that betrays its former days as a bare-bones motor inn. The lobby, stocked with DVDs and board games, encourages guests to linger; cookies and lemonade are served each afternoon.

Rooms Each is done up in cocoa brown and royal blue with geometric rugs and modern pedestal lamps. Some of the rooms with king-size beds also have pullout couches; there's a $10 charge for each additional person staying in the room, but children under 12 stay free. A third of the rooms have full kitchenettes, complete with a stove top, oven, and fridge (at only $20 more than the regular rate).

Plus The Swank Cocktail Club, where patrons enjoy fresh, seasonal cocktails around a fireplace. Jetsons-like lamp fixtures and low couches contribute to the mod-retro look.

Minus Don't be fooled: "Presidio View" rooms face Presidio Avenue, not the eponymous park.

Free Wi-Fi? Yes.

Credit Cards Accepted AmEx, Discover, MC, Visa.

Details Doubles from $149, rooms with kitchenettes from $169; rates include breakfast. Extended-stay discounts are available.
