Taking a page from Berlin's genius for reinvention, the Michelberger Hotel, in the gallery-filled Friedrichshain neighborhood, is a truly creative take on a design hotel. The 119 rooms accommodate all types—singles, doubles, and groups of 10 looking to bunk up together. Some of the most playful touches: lamp shades made out of 1960s German travel guidebooks and custom wallpaper that showcases staffers' doodles. Even that design hotel stalwart, the flat-screen, has been messed with—reclaimed industrial boxes frame the TVs.
