'Hood In Mission district, surrounded by a lively assortment of taco joints and boho-chic bars. It's down the block from Foreign Cinema restaurant, a local favorite that screens films in its courtyard.

The Vibe A buzzing, youthful place, filled with Americans and backpackers from abroad, that calls to mind a hip, cleaned-up college dorm.

Rooms Yellow and orange walls pump up the otherwise bare-bones rooms. Find the setup that works for you: dorm rooms (coed or single sex) or double rooms with queen-size beds or twin bunk beds.

Plus Access to the sky terrace at Medjool, the sleek restaurant and lounge next door. It's a great spot for cocktails and sweet views of the city.

Minus Elements is a little loud, echoing throughout the evening with the pitter-patter of not-so-little feet.

Free Wi-Fi? Yes. There is also free Internet access at three computers in the communal lounge.
