'Hood On a quiet street in Monti, a small, hip neighborhood of art galleries, restaurants, and desirable apartments just to the northeast of the Colosseum—yet off the radar of many tourists.
The Gist Online reviews emphasize the fantastic location and large rooms with old-fashioned ceiling beams. Exterior rooms may have Colosseum views, while others have small balconies overlooking an internal courtyard. Rooms are fully equipped and cleaned daily, but other services are minimal (no elevator, virtually no lobby, no included breakfast). The staff is friendly, and if no one's at the reception desk, there's a telephone you can use to call for assistance.
Free Wi-Fi? Yes.
Credit Cards Accepted AmEx, MC, Visa.
Details Single-occupancy rooms from $133 (€90), doubles from $177 (€120), apartment stays are also available.
Thanks for Sharing Reader JoAnne Hughes had plenty to say in favor of the Sunset Roma: "If you stuck your head out the window and looked left, you could see the Colosseum at the end of the street, and even us 50-somethings found it an easy walk to the Forum, the Pantheon, and the Trevi Fountain. Within one block there were many groceries, gelato shops, and small restaurants—our favorite was the DoDo, two doors down, for seafood risotto."
