'Hood Fisherman's Wharf. Catch the Sausalito or Oakland ferries at Pier 41, about three blocks away, or walk a few more blocks to Pier 39 and its lounging sea lions. Two cable car lines and Musée Méchanique, which has a large collection of antique arcade games, are also nearby.

True to its name, the Tuscan Inn has Italian-inspired touches: a warmly decorated lobby with a fireplace, a nightly wine reception for guests, a pleasant courtyard with potted trees, and a solid Italian restaurant on-site. There's complimentary limo service on weekdays to the Financial District (call ahead for times). Be sure to request a courtyard-facing room, as Point Street can be noisy at night.
