About this Hotel

Price From $101

'Hood Flamengo, a residential neighborhood relatively free of partying tourists. Both a subway stop and the quaint Edison Carneiro Folklore Museum are a block from the hotel.

The Vibe An imposing 1924 building with a pale-pink façade, the Regina feels like a pleasant, welcoming retreat. Guests staying here enjoy the relative quiet compared with Copacabana.

Rooms Renovations in 2008 updated the 117 rooms, which now have simple blond-wood furnishings and bedspreads in beachy neutrals. Corner rooms have sizeable balconies that are well suited for catching the afternoon ocean breeze.

Plus Easy access to the subway and to green spaces. Across the street, Parque do Flamengo skirts along the bay and attracts runners, particularly on traffic-free Sundays. Look out for flying soccer balls; the pickup games can get pretty intense.

Minus Some rooms are small and cramped, as are the elevators. Ask to see a few rooms before committing to one.

Free Wi-Fi? No; available for $3 per day.

Credit Cards Accepted AmEx, MC, Visa.

Details Doubles from $101, rooms with balconies from $112, suites from $139.
