Last year's makeover of this 1970s hotel in Marbella brought not only eco-minded improvements like solar panels and key-card-activated electricity, but also serious style updates, from silver-and-gold-striped accent walls to oversize portraits of movie stars and models. About half the 400 rooms have been renovated so far; ask to stay in the west wing, which is the one that's been spruced up. Waiter service in the palm-lined pool area runs from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., but if you prefer the beach, an underground walkway bypasses busy streets and puts you on the sand in 10 minutes flat.
