The owners of the 45-room LX Boutique Hotel, which opened in September, take their Portuguese culture seriously. The town house's blue façade is a play on the cerulean hues of the country's famous azulejo tiles. Inside, each of the five floors is named for a local hero or tradition, which serves as the theme for that floor's decor. In the Pessoa rooms, bookshelf murals honor prolific poet Fernando Pessoa, and the Fado rooms have wall-size photos of the 12-string guitar used in the region's mournful, old-time music. Some rooms offer river views, while others look on to pop art graffiti on the adjacent building that was commissioned by the hotel.
