Why It's a Deal A recent Kayak search found that airfare from Los Angeles to Ho Chi Minh City, with a regional flight between Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi and a return flight from Hanoi to Los Angeles, starts at $1,360 in mid-March (China Southern). Add to that $238 per person for three nights at the New World Saigon Hotel and $217 per person for three nights at the Nikko Hotel, and you're looking at $1,815 per person just for airfare and accommodation, including taxes and fees. For only $84 more, this package gets you the international and regional airfare, six nights in Vietnam, and all taxes and fees, plus daily breakfast and a comprehensive touring program including transportation and entrance fees.
More Additional nights are available at both the New World Hotel and Nikko Hotel ($70 per person, per night at each). Friendly Planet also offers numerous optional excursions and extensions. For $300 additional per person, you can add a tour package that includes trips to the Cu Chi Tunnels in Ho Chi Minh, the Mekong Delta, and Halong Bay, as well as a pedicab tour of Hanoi's Old Quarter. Add another $170 additional per person for a deluxe overnight cruise on Halong Bay on board the Emeraude, a colonial steamship replica. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided; the single supplement for the cruise is $130. (If booked without the optional tour package, the Halong Bay cruise is $300 per person with a single supplement of $130.) Extend your vacation with a three-night stopover in Bangkok, including three nights at the Dusit Thani hotel, daily breakfast, and all taxes and fees, at $499 additional per person (single supplement is $199; additional nights are available from $60 per person, per night).
