Why It's a Deal A recent Kayak search shows that round-trip airfare between New York City and Nairobi starts at $1,003 in early November (multiple airlines). Three nights at the InterContinental Nairobi starts at $540 per person; one night at the Lake Naivasha Country Club starts at $95 per person; and one night at the Keekorok Lodge starts at $153 per person. Altogether, you'd be paying at least $1,791, including taxes and fees, just for airfare and lodging. For $408 more, this travel package arranges everything—gets you the international airfare, six nights in hotels and safari lodges, all domestic transportation, most meals, tours (including boat and land safaris), and all taxes and fees included.
More Add pre- or post-tour nights at the InterContinental Nairobi for $200 per room, per night, plus a $100 change fee and the difference in airfare. Friendly Planet also offers a three-night extension to Istanbul, during which you'll stay at the Kent Hotel or similar. The extension package includes daily breakfast and guided tours of Istanbul's historic markets and landmarks, and costs $599 per person, plus a $20 Turkey Visa fee, to be paid separately. Extension package is available for Sep. 8 and Oct. 6 departures only.
