Why It’s a Deal A recent Kayak search shows the lowest round-trip airfare from New York City to Munich starts from $703 in early February (Airberlin). Add to that $720 per person including taxes for four nights at Holiday Inn City Centre, and you’re paying $1,423 for airfare and accommodation alone! For $394 less, this package gives you airfare, four nights’ accommodations, daily breakfast, and all taxes and fees.

More Several optional tours are available, including a ride to the town of Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps, where you can tour Adolf Hitler’s former summer retreat, the Eagle’s Nest, for $63 per person. A guided tour of Munich by night is also available for $86 per person, complete with a chance to climb Olympic Tower for some great nighttime views of the city. A hop-on-hop-off guided bus tour costs $26 per person, taking you to some of Munich’s greatest attractions—the National Theatre and Opera House, among others—or for $65 per person, you can take a panoramic tour of King Ludwig II’s fairy-tale Neuschwanstein and Linderhof castles, before enjoying a little free time in Oberammergau for shopping. (It should be noted that castle entrance fees are not included in the optional tour price but can be purchased on-site.)
