The Real Deal This day-hiking adventure, which explores the wilds of Tahoe National Forest, includes two to three guided day hikes; three nights at REI Adventures’ Eagle Lakes campsite; accommodations in provided tents; three breakfasts, three lunches, and two dinners; on-site transportation to and from trailheads; services of professional guides with guided hikes into the forested wilds northwest of Lake Tahoe, where you’ll see secret waterfalls and dip into secluded swimming holes; from $480 per person—including all taxes and fees.

The Fine Print The starting rate is for REI members; add $45 for non-members. The price is the same for those traveling solo, or with friends. Lifetime REI membership is $20 per person. The closest commercial airport is in Sacramento, CA, 90 miles away. Transfers from the airport are not included. REI recommends renting a car. Average group size ranges from 4 to 15 participants. Why It’s a Deal The cost of this trip breaks down to about $160 a night and it includes all meals, three nights camping, guided hikes, and all taxes and fees.
More Optional activities not available outside of the scheduled itinerary. While extra camping nights cannot be added, you can book pre- or post-trip nights in the area independently, provided that you have your own mode of transportation. To give you an idea, nightly rates at the nearby Swan and Levine House, a bed-and-breakfast in Grass Valley start from $100 per room, based on double occupancy. A night in Truckee at The Inn at Truckee starts from $80 per room.
