Why It’s a Deal A recent search on Kayak showed that the lowest round-trip airfare from Chicago into Los Angeles and out of San Diego starts from $249 with taxes for travel in late October (American Airlines). Add to that $229 per person, including taxes and fees, for three nights at the Wilshire Hotel, and $184 per person, including taxes and fees, for three nights at the Crowne Plaza San Diego, and your total for airfare and accommodations alone is $662 when booked separately. For just $182 more than airfare and accommodations, this package covers the flight, six nights’ accommodations, a seven-day car rental, and all associated taxes and fees.
