Five Ways to Use a Ziploc

Source Article: 20 TipsReplay slide show
  1. When I go on a trip that requires me to accessorize a number of outfits, I buy those little zip-top baggies and place the appropriate jewelry/scarf/panty hose in the bag. Then I punch a hole just big enough to slide the bag over the outfit's hanger. This way, my panty hose stay snag-free and my jewelry never gets lost. -Gina Beyer, New York, N.Y. (Photo: Kate Lacey)
  2. Pack a one-gallon Ziploc bag and a travel-size shampoo container refilled with detergent. They come in handy when you need to wash hosiery, bras, and other delicate undergarments. Put a few drops of detergent into the bag and fill it partway with water. Place the item in the bag, close, and shake around for a few minutes. -Erika Kumada, Mount Prospect, Ill. (Photo: Kate Lacey)
  3. When carrying around my small umbrella, I put it in a Ziploc bag. After using it, I can put the umbrella back in the Ziploc and into my shoulder bag without getting everything else wet. -Sandy Sussman, Princeton, N.J. (Photo: Kate Lacey)
  4. For long flights, pack a dry washcloth in a Ziploc bag in your carry-on. Right before landing, ask the flight attendant for a cup of hot (not boiling) water. Very carefully pour the water into the Ziploc bag and then wipe your face and hands with the steaming cloth. It's like having a portable sauna! -Henrietta Scarlett Ober, Rexford, N.Y. 5. If you plan to visit a theme park, always bring a few sandwich-size Ziploc bags. They'll protect your cell phone and wallet when you're riding on flumes and other water attractions. -Jack Bell, Kissimmee, Fla. (Photo: Kate Lacey)
