Cruise savings: The time is now

This deal from Travel Leaders that recently landed in my inbox underlines what Dan Hanrahan, president and CEO of Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Cruises, told me when he came to our offices last week: The time to go on a cruise is now. In reaction to the economic crisis, cruise lines are squeezing their suppliers to lower costs, but they aren't cutting back on amenities and inclusions. You're getting the same as you ever were—but for a lot less, Hanrahan told me.

There's a glut of a new ships on the market, so cruisers can get top quality at a bargain. In November, Celebrity launched its newest ship, the Celebrity Solstice, and it's rolling out the second of its Solstice-class series, the Celebrity Eclipse, this spring. Even these brand new ships are on sale. Hanrahan specifically mentioned that Alaska was seeing some of the biggest discounts. If you've been waiting for a good time to see ice flows along the Inside Passage, you can’t find a better moment to book than this summer.
