Where to Stay for This Year's Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC
One of the world’s greatest celebrations of spring blooms again March 20 through April 16 as the National Cherry Blossom Festival returns to Washington, D.C., coinciding with the white and pink floral blossoms bursting to life on more than 3,700 cherry trees found around the Tidal Basin in West Potomac Park, Hains Point of East Potomac Park and the Washington Monument grounds. Since receiving 3,000 cherry trees from the Mayor of Tokyo in 1912, the District of Colombia’s beautiful spring has become a draw to travelers eager to say goodbye to winter and stand beneath the shade of thousands of pink and white petals.
The month-long festival features a plethora of petal-celebrating events, including the Blossom Kite Festival, the Pink Tie Party, fireworks, and the perennial National Cherry Blossom Parade, which runs along Constitution Avenue with colorful helium balloons, elaborate floats, celebrity entertainers and marching bands from around the country.
