      Charlotte () is the most populous city in the U.S. state of North Carolina. Located in the Piedmont region, it is the county seat of Mecklenburg County. In 2020, the U.S. Census Bureau found that the population was 874,579, making it the 16th-most populous city in the U.S. and the second-largest in the Southeast behind Jacksonville, Florida.
