Your Facebook friends can win you a trip to Britain
Getting bored with Facebook? A new Facebook contest that launched this week called Unite the Invite, might be a way to spice up your daily wall trollings and potentially win you a trip to Britain in the process.
The Facebook contest concept was put together by VisitBritain, Britain's marketing organization, together with youth travel company STA Travel.
Here's how it works: Register for the app (apps.facebook.com/unitetheinvite), and then upload a photo of yourself. You will then be sent a photo of another Facebook user, who is has also registered with Unite the Invite. Post their photo to your wall and invite your friends to share it by posting to their walls.
The fastest pair to "unite their invite" will each win a trip for two to the U.K. and can choose from six different destinations: London, Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Glasgow or Cardiff, according to the contest organizers.
While the invite might not be the invite to the April 29th royal wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton, the hype surrounding the princely nuptials could certainly be motivation to want to cross the Atlantic and get in on the Facebook game, or at least that's what VisitBritain and STA Travel are hoping.
"With the royal wedding just a couple months away and the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games just around the corner, the U.K. has never had more reasons to celebrate, and there's never been a more exciting time to visit," said James Bell, commercial VP at STA Travel.
"We're all connected by six degrees of separation," said Joanne Simmons, online executive at VisitBritain, who invited users to see "how connected you really are."
The winning trip will be put together by STA Travel.
