After eight years of talking about it, Susan Murray of Lexington, Ky., finally organized a trip to New York City with her daughter, Shauna, and two girlfriends, Pauline Roaden and Diana McCullough: "We're all so busy with work and family, but we decided it was time." The women had already bought tickets to see the hit Broadway musical Hairspray, so we hooked them up with a special preshow tour led by stage manager Jason Brouillard. They got a long peek behind the scenes, including the sets and costume areas. "The wig room was so cool," says Susan. "We saw how they dry and style each one." And they met the actors in their dressing rooms. Shannon Durig, who has the lead role of Tracy Turnblad, admired a glass pendant that Diana was wearing--Diana had made it--so Diana gave it to her after the show. (Shannon sent a thank-you soon after.) "Everyone was so nice," says Susan. "It was the highlight of our trip. Well, that and shopping in SoHo!"
